About Us

Stoneworks has been providing surveying services in central Scotland for over 10 years. We bring a fresh approach to the sector by combining traditional building inspection methods with the latest drone technology.

The business was established in 1990, originally offering stonemasonry conservation and restoration services. Over the next 24 years we would build an impressive reputation for quality of service working on high profile projects throughout Scotland and the wider UK. In recent years we decided to vacate the contracting sector to focus entirely on surveying.

Our mission is to provide independent advice and honest appraisals, allowing clients to make informed decisions about maintenance and repair. We are approachable and flexible and do not rush our work. Every job is allocated sufficient time to ensure that we provide a high-quality service to meet a client’s specific needs.

Our principal surveyor David Lindsay has worked in the built heritage sector for over 35 years, beginning his career as one of Scotland’s leading architectural stone carvers, then managing a traditional building restoration business, before changing career direction to train and qualify as a building surveyor. David is a registered associate member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) with the designation AssocRICS.

  • David’s surveying skills are underpinned by a wealth of previous experience repairing and restoring many of Scotland’s most notable listed buildings. A small example includes the provision of services for Edinburgh Castle, Central Library, Jenners Department Store, and Newliston House, all in Edinburgh, Seton Castle in East Lothian, Paisley Abbey and Thomas Coates church in Paisley, the Johnstone Mausoleum in Alva, St. Monan’s Church in Fife, and Customs House in Dundee.

  • Registered with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) as a multirotor drone operator.

Our drone pilots are A2 CofC and GVC qualified with hundreds of hours flight experience.

Qualified by Historic Environment Scotland (HES) in Conservation of Masonry.

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Heritage Skills Gold Card holder.

NOCN qualified in Energy Efficiency for Older & Traditional Buildings.
